Royal Oak FC 4-2 Sutton Benger FC

Oak Dash Hopes Of Benger Comeback

Stanley Park was eventually the setting for this Division 1 clash and it was Royal Oak who eventually prevailed against Sutton Benger.

Both managers were required to go between the sticks with no goalkeepers available for either side and it was Kai Flack who was first called into action when Sam Chapman’s effort was destined for the top corner but Flack did well to palm his effort over the bar.

Most of the early pressure came from Oak and they deservedly took the lead through a Jed Kirkwood header.

It was two nil before halftime when Flack was unsighted at a free kick which led to Jake Duckett firing home into the corner.

After the break, Sam Chapman, who was causing a nuisance to the Benger backline for the majority of the game got a goal his performance deserved but this finally clicked Benger into gear and the fightback ensued.

Their passing game started to bear fruit and they were given a lifeline when the evergreen Jason Cole pulled a goal back and when an Ethan Moore header was looped goalwards by Tom Stratton and found its way in, it was certainly game on.

Despite pressing for the equalizer it would be another set-piece that would prove to be fatal as Matt Russell was left unmarked to nod home a free kick for game, set & match for Royal Oak.
