Week 9 is already upon us and we saw the first weekend of sustained downpour which unfortunately took a high number of matches in the Shoestrings-Chargrill Sponsored Chippenham & District Sunday Football League. 1 match survived in Division 1 to bring you news for.
Sutton Benger 2-6 Sporting Box FC
Sporting Claim Their First Win Of The Season
Only one match from Division 1 survived and Sutton Benger Player Manager Kai Flack will probably be ruing that Sutton Benger Rec has a habit of standing up to most weather conditions as his threadbare side were defeated by Sporting Box who claimed their first win of the season.
The first half was a slightly one sided affair with Sporting Box taking full advantage of the conditions and looking to benefit from the opposition not having the correct personnel and they opened the scoring with just over 10 minutes on the clock, Zil Stead finding some space on the edge of the area and rifling home a low drive.
Chances were coming at quite regularity, Nathan Baldwin missing a glorious chance when 1 on 1 with Benger goalkeeper Luke Todd but Todd narrowed the angle well and Baldwin fired wide.
Sporting did make their pressure prevail as first Jay Painter and then a second of the match for Zil Stead, a delightful chip over the advancing Todd for 3-0 and when Painter added his second of the match the sides went in at the break with the score 0-4 to Sporting Box.
In true Benger fashion, they rallied to try and make inroads back into the game and came close when Tom Stratton hit the crossbar but they also left themselves open to being caught on the break twice, once through Josh Salmon and again through Lewis McArron.
But there was still time for The Buttons to register their names on the scoresheet first through Tom Stratton whose work rate probably deserved a goal and Rob Jenkins scored his second of the season when his deep free kick slipped through the hands of Joe Faulkner in the Sporting goal and meant the match ended with the final score 2-6 to Sporting Box.
